What are neurons and how do they work?

Instructions for high school teachers.

With this workshop your students can learn about neurons (nerve cells) and their functioning in an interactive manner. The workshop consists of two parts and is suitable for high school students, aged 15–19 (or according to the teacher’s assesment). In the first part, students get acquainted with the structure of the neuron and the theoretical foundations of their functioning through the included activities. The second part is intended to upgrade the acquired knowledge. Through active participation they also learn the basics of the influence of psychoactive substances on synaptic transmission.

Workshop instructions

The instructions were prepared by Slovenian Brain Awareness Week organization team 2021, which consists of students from various fields of study (psychology, medicine, biopsychology, biology and chemistry, biotechnology, cognitive science,…). For all of us who participated in the preparation, this is the first experience of making a workshop in this form, so we will be very grateful for any feedback. You can send us the latter to our e-mail address sinapsa.junior@gmail.com.

We wish you a successful implementation!
